Privacy Policy

How we handle your information.

We work with young parents in some of the most personal moments of their lives. We treat your information the same way we treat you: with dignity, with care, and only for the purposes you came to us for.

Effective date: April 27, 2026

Teen Parenting Navigators NFP ("TPN," "we," "our," or "us") is an Illinois Nonprofit Corporation (File No. 74533051) and a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization based in Lombard, Illinois. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect personal information when you visit teenparentingnavigators.org or use our services.

If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at tpnnfp2024@gmail.com or 815-393-1975.

1. Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to anyone who visits our website or interacts with TPN, including young parents who fill out our intake form, volunteers, donors, and anyone who contacts us.

Many of the people we serve are minors (ages 14 and up). We treat their information with the same care and confidentiality as any adult's, and where Illinois law gives minors specific rights, we honor those rights.

2. What we collect

Information you give us directly

When you fill out a form on our site (Intake, Volunteer, Contact, or Donate inquiry), we collect what you choose to share, which may include:

  • Your name, age or birthdate, phone number, email address, and mailing address
  • Your child's age or due date, if you tell us
  • Information about your situation (housing, school, work, family) so we can connect you to the right support
  • Information about your interest in volunteering or partnering with us
  • Anything else you write in a message to us

We only ask for what we actually need to help you. You can leave optional fields blank.

Information we collect automatically

When you visit our website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) automatically receives standard server log information, including your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit, and the time of your visit. This is used for site security and basic operations. We do not use third-party advertising trackers or behavioral analytics.

Cookies and local storage

Our public site does not set cookies or use third-party tracking. The staff admin area uses your browser's session storage to keep you signed in for one hour at a time. Session storage is cleared when you close the browser.

3. How we use your information

We use the information you give us to:

  • Respond to your message and connect you to the support you asked about
  • Coordinate the program or service you signed up for (mentoring, doula support, the Empowerment Pantry, etc.)
  • Schedule appointments, send reminders, and follow up
  • Track participation and outcomes for our own program improvement and grant reporting (we share only aggregated, de-identified numbers with funders, never your name or details)
  • Acknowledge donations and provide tax receipts
  • Communicate event information if you opt in

4. What we do NOT do

  • We do not sell your information. Ever.
  • We do not share your personal information with advertisers or marketing companies.
  • We do not use your story or photos in fundraising or social media without your written consent. For minors, we obtain a parent or guardian's consent in addition to yours.
  • We do not share your information with schools, employers, or government agencies, except as required by law (see Section 7).

5. Who has access to your information

Inside TPN, only authorized staff and trained volunteers who need the information to provide your service have access. We sign confidentiality agreements with all volunteers and contractors.

Outside TPN, we use a small number of trusted service providers who help us operate. They only see the information they need to do their job:

  • Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., USA) hosts our website and stores form submissions in a secure database located in the United States.
  • Resend (Resend, Inc., USA) delivers form submission notifications to our staff email.
  • Google Workspace (Google, USA) hosts our staff email accounts.
  • Givebutter (Givebutter, Inc., USA) processes online donations. When you donate, you interact with Givebutter directly and their privacy policy also applies to that transaction.

These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and may not use it for their own purposes.

6. How we protect your information

  • Our website uses HTTPS encryption for everything you submit.
  • Our database is hosted in a secure, access-controlled environment.
  • Staff access is password-protected and time-limited.
  • Only the people who need your information to do their job have access to it.
  • If we ever experience a data breach, we will notify affected individuals as required by Illinois law.

7. When we may share your information without your consent

We are required by law to share information in a few specific situations. We commit to telling you when this happens whenever we are legally able to.

  • Mandatory reporting: Several TPN staff and volunteers are mandated reporters under the Illinois Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act (ANCRA). If we receive credible information that a child is being abused or neglected, we are required by law to report it to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
  • Imminent danger: If we believe you or someone else is in immediate danger, we may contact emergency services or a designated trusted adult to keep you safe.
  • Court orders or subpoenas: If we receive a valid legal order, we will comply, and where lawful, we will tell you first.

8. How long we keep your information

We keep your information only as long as we need it for the purpose you gave it to us, plus any time required by law or our funders. Specifically:

  • Intake submissions: kept for the duration of your participation in our programs, plus 7 years afterward (program records retention).
  • Volunteer applications: kept for the length of your volunteer service plus 3 years.
  • Contact form messages: kept for up to 2 years and then deleted.
  • Donation records: kept for 7 years (IRS recordkeeping requirements).

9. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Ask what information we have about you
  • Ask us to correct anything that is wrong
  • Ask us to delete your information (subject to the retention requirements above and any obligations to funders or law)
  • Opt out of any non-essential email or follow-up
  • Take your story or photos out of any future fundraising or program materials, even if you previously gave permission

To exercise any of these rights, email tpnnfp2024@gmail.com or call 815-393-1975. We will respond within 14 days.

10. Information about minors

Our programs serve young people as young as 14. We do not target children under 13 with our website, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information about a child under 13, please contact us so we can delete it.

For young parents 14 to 17 who use our intake form, we treat your information with confidentiality. We do not contact your parent or guardian unless you ask us to, you give us written permission, or we are legally required to (see Section 7). Illinois law gives minors certain rights to seek services confidentially, and we honor those rights.

If you are in a crisis right now: please call 988 (the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline), text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line), or call 911 if you or someone else is in immediate danger. The information you share with us through this website is not monitored 24/7 and should not be used in an emergency.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as our practices change. The "Effective date" at the top of this page will always show when the current version took effect. If we make significant changes, we will let you know on our website and, where reasonable, by email to people who have given us their email address.
